PortManteau Mandacaru 2
There are 2 editions of PortManteu Mandacaru: Portmanteau Mandacaru I designed and executed in 2007 for the exhibition “Carlos Motta” at Mandalian Gallery Paillard, in Paris.
The Portmanteau Mandacaru 2, with different lines from Mandacaru I, was designed and executed in 2009 for the exhibition “Used and Reused Wood – Furniture by Carlos Motta” at Museu da Casa Brasileira – June 2010, with the release of the book “Carlos Motta – Life as I See It” by Bei Publisher.
The Portmanteau Mandacaru 2 is made with different Brazilian woods: the spheres are Aroeira wood, from remains of old pillars; the bowl is made of Cedar, which we do not know the origin, and the rest of rediscovered Peroba Rosa wood (demolition).
The woods of different colors received a black finishing, ebonized, making them monochromatic.
From Museu da Casa Brasileira it embarked on New York, where the same event, exhibition + launch of the book took place at Espasso Gallery, in September of 2010.
After that, it went to Los Angeles, in the same format and release of the book, also at Espasso Gallery, in March of 2011. The Portmanteau Mandacaru 2 was elected along with Mandacaru Bench, the two most important pieces of the Los Angeles Design Week at the Los Angeles Times journal.
Of the 17 pieces in the exhibition of 2013, four return to Brazil; the Portmanteau 2 Mandacaru is one of them. The pieces are found here and are part of the Atelier Carlos Motta particular Collection.
