Brazilian Design – Modern & Contemporary Furniture
March 2012
ZEITLOZ Design Gallery and Lobby of Stilwerk Berlin Mall
We all know the daring, curved shapes of Brazilian modernism that have shaped our notion of Brazilian architecture in Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, or São Paulo for over 80 years. In an equally sensual manner, and yet coupled with the greatest art of craftsmanship and a confident approach to the use of material, the designers of Brazil have also developed an unmistakable formal language located between yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
BRAZILIAN DESIGN: Modern & Contemporary Furniture presented the most comprehensive European exhibition of Brazilian furniture design to date. In the show, treasures from a private collection of modernist objects were complemented by pieces of contemporary design.
The event happened in Berlin, between March 23rd and 5th of May, 2012, at the Design Galerie ZEITLOS (modernist pieces), and also at the Stilwerk Berlin Mall Lounge (contemporary pieces). Given such success, lasted until the 30th of June, 2012.
The exhibition included around 60 pieces by:
Modernist: Lina Bo Bardi, Paulo Mendes da Rocha, Oscar Niemeyer, Sergio Rodrigues, Joaquim Tenreiro, Jorge Zalszupin, José Zanine Caldas. Contemporary: Rodrigo Almeida, Campana Brothers, Brunno Jahara, Sergio Matos, Carlos Motta, Ovo, Maneco Quinderé, Domingos Tótora, Zanini de Zanine.
